Why this matters
Large or invasive aquarium fish released into local water bodies can disrupt ecosystems, outcompete native species, and harm biodiversity. Even small species like goldfish can become invasive and severely impact local ecology if released. Common suckermouth catfish (pleco) can burrow into banks, disturb nests, and displace native fish. We step in to collect these fish and provide lifelong, humane care in controlled environments—avoiding releases into rivers, ponds, or lakes.
How we help
- Safe collection and humane transport
- Assessment and quarantine in controlled environments
- Permanent care with appropriate tank size, water quality, and nutrition
- Awareness and guidance for responsible pet ownership
Care parameters we follow
We follow clear parameters and give them a better life in our care by providing all of the following:
- Water quality: Stable temperature, pH and hardness appropriate to species; zero ammonia/nitrite; low nitrate; regular testing and water changes.
- Filtration & aeration: High‑capacity, redundant filtration with strong biological media and adequate oxygenation.
- Tank size & layout: Species‑appropriate volume with open swimming space, hides, and stress‑reducing aquascape.
- Nutrition: Balanced, species‑specific diet and feeding schedule to maintain health and growth.
- Quarantine & health: Intake quarantine, observation, and treatment as advised by aquatic experts; routine health checks.
- Behavior & enrichment: Low‑stress lighting, day/night cycle, and enrichment that supports natural behaviors.
- Compatibility & housing: Species‑only or carefully vetted compatible groups to prevent stress and injury.
- Records: Intake notes, water‑parameter logs, growth and health tracking for continuous care.
